My Qalifications:
My Interests:
I have always enjoyed treating patients holistically, and have had a special interest in treating patient's with chronic pain. I have taken several courses to enhance my management of these patients.
I enjoy doing voluntary work. I have recently taken up paddle boarding and do enjoy cycling, exercising at the gym doing aqua-aerobics and Pilates.
My Experience:
I gradualted in 1985 from the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa. I initially worked in a trauma hospital where I gained invaluable experience treating Workman's compensation patients. I gained experience in the acute hospital setting and outpatients department treating a variety of musculoskeletal (MSK) and orthopaedic patient's. I did have the opportunity to treat some neurology patients but did not choose to specialise in this field.
From there I went into private practice concentrating on MSK patients.
In 1999 I emigrated to the UK to be closer to family. I initially gained experience working in the NHS, care of the elderly, focusing on rehabilitation and the MDT care of inpatients. I worked closely with occupational therapists and the community physiotherapists in helping patients regain their independence and where possible to return home.
In 2002 I worked in a private hospital in Surrey, working in both the outpatient and the inpatient departments. I was able to gain experience working with top orthopaedic surgeons, seeing their patients from the ward through to the outpatient department. I was able to keep up to date with the latest orthopaedic procedures with regular inservice training. I did a basic course in aquatherapy which was a very useful tool to help patients recover from hip, shoulder and knee replacements.
As of 2014, I have worked in a private practice treating mostly MSK patients.
